Lang Yarns Jawoll Silk is a beautiful yarn made from Tussah silk and wool from the Corriedale sheep from Patagonia. The silk Tussah is wild silk, obtained from the caterpillars or cocoons of free-living Japanese oak silk moths. The thread is also a little stronger than mulberry silk. Concerning the wool, only the finest part of the wool fleece is sorted out during shearing. The average thickness, the diameter of the fibre, is just 25 microns (1 micron = 1/1000 mm) so the wool feels very soft and is very comfortable to wear. The Corriedale sheep live all year round in the natural wilds of Patagonia. Because of the scant food supply, their wool remains white and grows to an average staple length of 10cm. This makes it take dye well, the colours are brilliant, and the finished yarn is highly resistant to pilling (knot forming).
This yarn is composed of 55% wool, 25% nylon, 20% silk and knits with knitting needles 2.5 and 3.5 mm (US -4) for a gauge of 30 stitches and 41 rows.
There are about 210 meters (229 yd) in a 50 gramm ball so plan to knit:
500g = 10 balls for men size M
450g = 9 balls for women size M
300g = 6 balls for children size 10 ans
100g = 2 balls for socks.
Machine wash at 40°C (104°F) with a detergent for wool without softener.
